I have a qualitative final course classification from abroad. Can I request conversion to the Portuguese scale?

Conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese scale, from 0 to 20, may be requested at the same time as automatic recognition or level recognition, or, in some cases, after obtaining degree/diploma recognition or professional recognition. Except for specific situations provided for certain classifications awarded in the United Kingdom, Malta and the United States of America, conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese scale is carried out using the following arithmetic formula:

Cfinal = {[(C-Cmin)/(Cmax-Cmin)]*10} + 10 

where Cfinal is the final classification converted to the Portuguese scale; C is the final classification of the foreign academic degree or diploma; Cmin is the minimum classification corresponding to approval in the foreign final classification scale; and Cmax is the maximum value of the foreign final classification scale. This process of converting the final classification to the Portuguese scale does not apply to doctoral degrees, but only to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. For doctoral degrees, as well as in situations where no final classification was awarded by the higher education institution of origin, the mechanism for assigning a final classification may apply, as part of the specific recognition process.
